Improving people’s financial well-being takes creativity, commitment and a culture of service. These are the stories of credit unions and how they are putting people’s financial well-being at the center of their strategy. Shared with you, our credit union family, to inspire you and give you the tools to navigate to the next stop on your own financial well-being journey.

In the sixth episode of our Foundation Field Notes video series, Foundation Executive Director Gigi Hyland meets with Kemal Gasper, Program Manager for VyStar Credit Union’s @Work Program, to discuss how the program breaks down obstacles and helps individuals join credit unions and take advantage of their products & services. The @Work Program goes into workplaces to help spread awareness of credit unions and sets underserved individuals up with checking accounts & direct deposit. Removing the barriers to banking can help individuals with other services and products they need, which can lead them on a path to financial well-being.

Here are the three main takeaways from the interview:

  1. Truly meet people where they are in life – not just employees but everyone in the community to let them know that credit unions are doing and how they can help people reach their financial dreams.
  2. Find out what the barriers might be for your employees or members in joining the credit union and taking advantage of your products and services.
  3. Work to remove those obstacles and barriers for those employees who want to bank with you – put in that extra effort for them so they feel taken care of and more than just a member.
