CU Community Raises over $53k via CUAid yet Need for Relief in Louisiana Grows

Since activating the online disaster relief system CUAid a week ago for credit union people in Louisiana affected by the recent flooding, the National Credit Union Foundation (the Foundation) has collected over $53,000.

However, the need for assistance has grown as the Red Cross said the Louisiana flooding "is likely the worst natural disaster in the United States since 2012's Superstorm Sandy" and the Louisiana Credit Union League is reporting that the number of affected credit union employees will be around 150 to 200.

The National Credit Union Foundation hosted a Twitter chat on 8/18 for credit unions to discuss their activities to improve the financial health of staff and members.  You can now see the highlights from the discussion.

“Financial health is a term used to describe the state of one’s personal financial situation,” said Christopher Morris, Foundation Director of Communications. “Improving financial health is at the core of what credit unions do every day and they are doing a great job. However,
according to CFSI (Center for Financial Services Innovation), 57% of Americans—approximately 138 million adults— are struggling financially, so clearly there is more work to be done.”
