Resources for Credit Unions to Better Serve Native Americans
In a nationwide effort to help credit unions reach some of the most impoverished people in the U.S., the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) held a summit in July of 2006 to identify best practices to serve Native Americans. NCUF first conducted a national survey of credit unions with Native Americans in their field of membership, then invited representatives from 15 leading credit unions.
All attendees described difficulties in finding resources to better serve Native American members. The following information was compiled to assist credit unions interested in serving Native Americans.
Native American Banking Resource Directory OCC Directory with descriptions and contact information for a sampling of organizations that can provide resources to banks/credit unions interested in lending, investing, or providing retail financial services in Indian country.
Alaska Funding Exchange An organization that provides grant writing services along with an array of other grant finding/fundraising services.
GrantStation An interactive website that allows grantseekers to identify potential funding sources for their programs or projects, and mentors you through the grantseeking process.
