DEs Embrace First "DE Day of Service"

To celebrate the first DE Day of Service - June 15, 2016 - Credit Union Development Educators (DEs) across the country (and world) worked individually and collectively to complete a project to improve the lives of others.

At a meeting in early 2016, the CUDE Advisory Committee suggested we offer a DE Day of Service to celebrate our DE designations and to make lasting changes within our communities. Using this day (or week), is a way for DEs to transform their training and its teachings into community service to empower our members and strengthen local communities.

New Video Released on Non-Prime Auto Lending

The National Credit Union Foundation (the Foundation) has released a new video to showcase its Non-Prime Auto Lending Program.  The Foundation, in partnership with the Filene Research Institute, is working to assist low- and moderate-income consumers with its product incubator for Non-Prime Auto Loans.

The 18-month pilot program recently closed, with 10 credit unions participating across the country. The video is comprised of two in-depth member testimonials and provides an overview of this type of lending from University FCU in Austin, Texas, one of the pilot participants.

In credit union land, we talk a lot about financial education for our members. Undoubtedly, it’s important, but what about the financial well-being of our staff? Or the staff of our Select Employee Groups (SEGs)?

June is National Employee Wellness Month and this is a critical component. For example, financially stressed employees are 44% less productive because they are worrying about personal financial issues at work and 58% more absent. It’s so important that Jay Johnson, Executive Vice President of Callahan & Associates, chose financial wellness as his one of Callahan’s “Six Big Ideas for 2016.”
