DE Day of Service - June 14, 2017

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"

- Dr. Martin Luther King

In 2016, we held the very first DE Day of Service and it was really successful. See pictures and get inspiration for this year’s Day of Service here.

The DE Day of Service will always be the second Wednesday of June, so this year it is June 14th.

What is it again?
Using this day (or week), is a way for DEs to transform their training and its teachings into community service to empower our members and strengthen local communities. We are asking DEs across the country (and around the globe) to embrace the DE Day of Service - and work individually or collectively to complete a project to improve the lives of others – and then tell the story. Consider service ideas that support making a difference around the Development Issues (health, housing, hunger, access to credit, savings mobilization, transportation, education, environment, appropriate technology, women in development etc).

What can you do now?
Start planning your activity if you haven’t already. Be sure to take a picture or two. Then on or shortly after June 14th, let the Foundation know what you are doing!

DEs Embrace First "DE Day of Service"

To celebrate the first DE Day of Service - June 15, 2016 - Credit Union Development Educators (DEs) across the country (and world) worked individually and collectively to complete a project to improve the lives of others.

About the DE Day of Service

Linking our past with credit unions' present, the DE program brings renewed relevance to the philosophy of "People Helping People." This unique and transformative training provides critical lessons in cooperative principles, credit union philosophy and international development issues while incorporating challenges credit unions face today. The experience of DE does not end upon receiving our DE diplomas – this is just the start of our DE journey. As we returned to our respective lives, we worked hard to complete a DE project within our credit union, our community or the global world. But our work is never done…

At a meeting in early 2016, the CUDE Advisory Committee suggested we offer a DE Day of Service to celebrate our DE designations and to make lasting changes within our communities.
