Credit Unions and Affiliate Organizations:

The National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) is a HUD-approved housing counseling national intermediary. As such it is eligible to apply for HUD Housing Counseling grants, through HUD’s Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) annual funding cycle - a competitive application process. In the past four years, the Foundation has successfully competed for housing counseling grants, winning awards totaling more than $2.7 million. The Foundation’s success has been due to the participation of credit union partners willing to assist in the provision of housing counseling services to people of modest means while meeting federal compliance requirements.

HUD’s Housing Counseling grant provides funds to non-profit organizations, enabling them to prepare low-to-moderate income people for homeownership. The Foundation re-grants the funds to credit unions and CU organizations to supplement an existing housing counseling program or a mortgage lending program.

Grant awards are used to pay the salaries and benefits of the organization’s staff members who work on the project.

If your organization is interested in participating in a federal grant to provide housing counseling to low- to moderate-income people, please complete the NCUF HUD sub-grantee application packet below and submit it to Ruth Jaure, Director of Program Development, electronically, by Friday, December 29, 2006.

The Foundation invites organizations interested in starting a new housing counseling program but already have the capacity to implement such a program and to comply with federal requirements at the project’s onset.
