Foundation Programs - What We Do
Our Signature Programs and Partnerships
As the philanthropic leader of America's credit union movement, the National Credit Union Foundation raises millions of dollars in funds, makes millions of dollars in grants, and manages innovative programs that help people declare financial independence through credit unions.
With support from individuals, Community Investment Fund investors, Corporate Supporters and other caring organizations, the National Credit Union Foundation makes a real impact through the "People Helping People" philosophy that inspires the credit union movement.
REAL Solutions is the signature program of the National Credit Union Foundation. REAL ― “Relevant, Effective, Asset-building, Loyalty-producing” — Solutions works through state credit union leagues to help credit unions make the difference for members, families and communities. REAL Solutions builds member and consumer financial capability by offering tools such as an online resource center (realsolutions.coop), product development, Credit Union Financial Counseling Certification Program (FiCEP – brought to CUs by the Foundation and CUNA), experiential learning programs (reality fairs, retirement fairs, & life simulations), planning/coaching, and speaking/training. Real people with real needs are finding REAL Solutions at credit unions.

Linking credit unions’ past and present, the Development Education (DE) program brings renewed relevance to credit unions’ seven cooperative principles and the philosophy of “people helping people.” People from all parts of the movement participate in a six-day total immersion experience to become certified Credit Union Development Educators (CUDEs). Once they earn this designation, CUDEs return to their jobs with a sense of personal enrichment and renewed energy to share what they learned.

The National Credit Union Foundation is the largest sponsor in the America's Credit Unions group underwriting the Biz Kid$ financial education series on national public television through PBS. Every episode begins and ends with an America's Credit Unions visual in a classroom, with a narrator reminding viewers that "Production funding for Biz Kid$ is provided by America’s Credit Unions, where people are worth more than money.”
Since 1980, the National Credit Union Foundation has provided millions of dollars in grants to credit unions and their partners for initiatives that support our mission to improve consumers' financial independence through credit unions. Every year, NCUF looks to fund new innovations that will help improve the financial capability of American families.
When a major disaster strikes credit union people, the National Credit Union Foundation raises disaster relief donations to support credit union employees, volunteers and members who suffer unrecoverable losses. To prepare for all future disasters, the Foundation developed CUAid (www.CUAid.coop), the credit union movement's online disaster relief fundraising system.
