National Credit Union Foundation Holds 2009 Annual Meeting in New Orleans

New Orleans Shops at Canal Place are now open.
For the first time ever, the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) held its Annual Meeting in New Orleans.

NCUF Board members toured the Crescent City’s low-lying areas on January 26, 2009.

They saw amazing progress of recovery efforts from Hurricane Katrina since August 29, 2005.

From 2005-08, NCUF worked with credit union leagues on the Gulf Coast to make over $3.6 million in Katrina relief grants.

It was the largest disaster relief fundraising effort in credit union history.
The 2009 NCUF Annual Meeting was hosted at the new headquarters of Jefferson Financial Credit Union, which invested $2 million in the Community Investment Fund (CIF) to support both NCUF and the new Louisiana Credit Union Foundation.

The meeting featured a guest presentation by the Louisiana Credit Union Foundation and New Orleans Firemen’s Federal Credit Union. Both offered lessons from their disaster recovery experiences.

The Louisiana Foundation committed to raise future relief funds through www.CUAid.coop. CUAid is the fundraising platform developed by NCUF to assist credit unions and credit union people impacted by disasters.
